Walking home from shopping. Mapgies live right on the walking path from the supermarket - impossible to avoid them. I did not get hurt and managed to fend off the bird which went on attacking the window of a parking car instead..Walk on the building construction side of the road instead..
Walking to work and a magpie sitting on a telephone wire swooped at my head. Felt like someone hit it with a rock! Kept on flying ahead of me, waiting, then swooping again once behind me. Had to hold my bag over my head and run for it. Pecked and bleeding head by the time I got to work.
Walking through Park near train station. There is a concrete path going straight through the middle of the park and in to a magpie ambush. Once in the park, the bird will not leave you along, constantly swooping. You can go around the park by ascending a steep bank right next to the road bridge and go around the park that way to avoid the magpie.
I just came from the rail trail and riding on Melaluka Rd towards the Bellarine Hwy and the magpie had 4 separate attacks as I started on the foot path then tried crossing the road but that didn't help so I just increased my speed and got out of his territory.
I was swooped several times and on the last one was clipped at the side of my helmet and I fell off. My helmet was cracked and my cycling glasses broken but thank goodness for them. Two black eyes, skinned nose, extensive bruising on body etc. lady across road appeared with water, wet ones and tissues. Regular occurrence for her, god bless her. Warning Bird!
