The nest outside our house has collapsed in this mornings heavy rain. At least one baby has survived and is in our hedge with it’s mother. The father is swooping at everyone who passes.
Jogging along Clayton St (heading towards the hills) heard the sound of wings and saw a Magpie make one swoop at me before flying back up to the power line on the other side of road.
Walking North to Canberra Centre. Magpie swooped from behind. Hit me on the leftmost side of the eyebrow and cheek. It was bleeding from the scratch. Attacked me the second time on the right shoulder. Walked quickly away with a wooden stick up.
3 swoops on the way out of Lockheed Circuit and one on Bennett Rd. No contact, just a lot of beak snapping. On the way back at about 11.15 am 3 swoops while I was on Bennett Rd. I got off the bike and then he sat on the road sign at Lockheed until I started waking across the road and he swooped me again, then flew into his tree.
Angry bird. Won't make friends even when fed. Hits the helmet and does not like walkers or joggers. Has a large range and even tried an attack when I was entering the front door of my flat. He likes ham and cold chicken. Makes the first 100m starting off on the bike interesting. He started late so will be going for a while yet.
Avoid if you can.
