Cycling northbound along Merri Creek Trail from Coburg Lake Reserve on a sunny Saturday afternoon, I heard a small child screaming and saw that they were being comforted by their parents by the scout hut. A few seconds later a magpie swooped me from behind and drew blood from the right side of my face. A kind couple who were enjoying the sunshine checked on me to ensure I was okay and we warned two passing cyclists about the bird. As I left the trail in the direction of Carr St, the magpie made two more swoops at me.
