Magpie attack on Walker - Chuculba Cr before Baldwin Dr, Giralang ACT 2617

Date: October 1st, 2024 05:50 PM

Activity: Walker

Injury: No

Got a few warning passes while on my usual sunset walk. He didn't get too close, thankfully, but this was still clearly intended as a message to stay away. Most of the magpies in the area know me, and some even consider me a friend after careful efforts to get to know them this year. As a result, this one stopped after I made eye contact with it up in the tree, and he could see that it was me. His gaze was unceasingly locked on me, though, so I wasn't going to push my luck. Maintaining my gaze, I gently told it I was walking away (magpies respond well to being talked to) & I got no further issues. Later on, other pedestrians got by unswooped, so I don't think this one is overly aggressive, but he's still protecting his nest, so don't push it. On my way back, there were still plenty of friendly magpies on the ground, so I'm not too worried.
