A particularly vicious magpie inhabits this park! I climbed the hill and he kept swooping me most of the way, then swooped me on the way down, and I also saw him swoop another cyclist. The park does have warning signs so at least I'd been expecting it.
Walking North to Canberra Centre. Magpie swooped from behind. Hit me on the leftmost side of the eyebrow and cheek. It was bleeding from the scratch. Attacked me the second time on the right shoulder. Walked quickly away with a wooden stick up.
Magpie nesting in a tree next to the gravel walkway into the Geoscience Australia building. Mainly seems to swoop me after I turn east to enter GA property. Aggressive swooper but has not made contact (yet). The best way to avoid it would probably be entering Geoscience Australia from the south side (bus-stop side) - well into the grassed area, then back to the road to avoid having to climb down the hill. Crossing at the creek on the north side doesn't work to stop swooping.
Both of them started on the ground and quickly took flight when I got near the tree. I think they freaked out that no-one was on the nest. They made a big racket and circled a few times, but didn't dive-bomb.
