Walking along shared use walking/bike path on Ferntree Gully Road in Scoresby, this particular magpie swooped, hit fairly hard, drew blood, then sat up in the tree watching me as I walked off.
Aggressive swooping, hit about 4 times on helmet, ongoing swooping from behind fended off for a good way further. Wearing red & white helmet, regular route but first contact with a Magpie, so not sure what triggered events this morning. At intersection of main cycle/walking paths Royal Park South.
Do grey butcherbirds count? As the two on this road have been more vicious than any maggie I've had the experience of being swooped by. I'm all cable tied up and they seem to see it as some sort of massage equipment on wheels. The ties are red so maybe they are colour blind?
Half way up the Overport Rd climb a magpie in the trees on the left. Attacks from behind. Has more bark than bite. Easily timed attacks, so if you turn around at the right moment you'll put him off his swoop.
