There is one extremely agressive magpie around the corner of Wrixon Ave and Egan St Brighton East. He has swooped me at least 3o times and I can't avoid him as I live near. I've tried every technique and nothing works. But he hates cyclists most.
Riding down hill from the 'Coach and Horses' down Burwood Ave to the Mullum Mullum bike trail. I constantly get chased and hit once by the same Magpie. This is my usual commute to and from work.
yes it was 2 years ago, though has gone on year after year..why hasnt the council done somethin?!! these magpies attack near the corner of Ripple,Veronica & Florida rds, Inverloch every spring.
bike riding with our son (8YRs)it swooped from the corner down to us and kept attacking our son. It was just awful. My husband continued to ride, yelling and trying to whack at it with a rolled up newspaper,it kept attacking . My son sustained a nasty cut to his ear and neck.To this day he will no longer ride in spring.
Same one has had a go at me 3 separate times now, the third time I thought if I got off my bike and got down low just before the spot I would be ok but it came straight for me from the front and then followed me across the road even when stationary and it continued to follow me for about 100m. I now have to take the big hill home!
This one swooped at me from behind with deadly intent. I was in full aero position in the middle of an ITT race wearing a friends brand new $400 Kask helmet. There was no way I was going to let that get damaged by this maggie, so I broke aero (and the no flinching rule) to wave the little b@st@rd away. That probably cost me about 9 or 10sec off my time. Imagine if that happened to Lemond in the 1989 tour?
It came at me from the front. Then I saw its shadow. All I could do was lower my head and it smashed into the back of my bike helmet twice. I feel sorry for walkers and little kids.
For years I never got swooped by magpies, just ignored. I think too many of their trees have been chopped down, there are too many feral cats and like to return to the same area but can't if their trees are gone..
