Same one has had a go at me 3 separate times now, the third time I thought if I got off my bike and got down low just before the spot I would be ok but it came straight for me from the front and then followed me across the road even when stationary and it continued to follow me for about 100m. I now have to take the big hill home!
This is a regular one that gets everyone who goes past McGraths Hill just before McDonalds.
Turn left on the previous turning before the lights and go around him on to the elevated bypass.
There is a road sign warning of it too.
This one swooped at me from behind with deadly intent. I was in full aero position in the middle of an ITT race wearing a friends brand new $400 Kask helmet. There was no way I was going to let that get damaged by this maggie, so I broke aero (and the no flinching rule) to wave the little b@st@rd away. That probably cost me about 9 or 10sec off my time. Imagine if that happened to Lemond in the 1989 tour?
It came at me from the front. Then I saw its shadow. All I could do was lower my head and it smashed into the back of my bike helmet twice. I feel sorry for walkers and little kids.
For years I never got swooped by magpies, just ignored. I think too many of their trees have been chopped down, there are too many feral cats and like to return to the same area but can't if their trees are gone..
